College and that a brass tablet should be placed to his
memory in Convocation Hall. A committee was at
this time appointed to consider the best course to be followed
in marking permanently the spirit which had animated the
benefactors of the University more especially in the efforts
which had been made in raising the Endowment Fund
in the years 1840, 1869, 1878, & 1887. As a result of these
deliberations it was proposed to create a roll of Benefactors
inscribed with the names of all who had aided Queen's
University from its foundation, and to begin in connection
with this record of her benefactors, a record of events in
connection with the institution, commencing with the
beginning of her history, and carried on from year to
year. This record to be known as the Domesday Book
of Queen's University. (Seee Q.C.J. Vol XV p. 154). And
further it was agreed to commemorate the benefactions of
an old and staunch friend of Queen's by giving to the
new Hall of Science the name of the "John Carruthers
Science Hall".

During this winter, the matter was
taken up of establishing a common Matriculation
Examination between the Universities of Ontario and
much correspondence passed between the Principal and
the Minister of Education on this subject. At the
Board Meeting of March 7th, it was
agreed to leave the matter in the Principal's hands
