comprising Calendars of State Papers, Chronicles of Great
Britain and Ireland during the Middle Ages, Publications
of the Record Commissioners, and Scotch Record Publications.

Another important gift consisting of a complete series of
the English Hansard from Charles I to George III was
presented by William Henderson of Toronto, and a further
donation of some five hundred standard works was
given by Miss Macaulay of Kingston. A grant of
$130 was made by the Board to the Museum at the
request of the curator.

Mr. Adam Shortt was at this time appointed
lecturer in Political Economy and Assistant Librarian
at a salary of $800 a year, and the salary of the Secretary-
Treasurer was increased to $800 a year.

It was also decided to open a
summer session in the departments of Mathematics, Philosophy
and Classics, provided that at least five persons
applied for entrance in these departments.

The session closed with a universal feeling of
hope and confidence that the prosperity of the University
was fixed on a more substantial basis than at any
previous period of her existence, and with the general
belief that the past severe struggle would prove to have
been the means of strengthening and extending
her influence. No honorary degrees
were granted during this year.
