embrace all the amendments considered necessary for some
time.

Considerable interest was felt, and a good deal
of discussion aroused during this winter about the questions of a
Higher Standard for all the Universities for Matriculation, and
of a common Matriculation Examination. The Principal
who with all his colleagues, strongly advocated a higher standard,
communicated at different times with the Minister of Education
and with the Authorities of Toronto University but no agreement
as to the desired alterations was at this time efffected. A letter
was received by the Council from Victoria College, expressing
their desire for a higher standard and their willingness to
co-operate with Queen's but as the Minister of Education after
much correspondence with the Principal refused to take any
steps in the matter, and as Toronto University showed no
willingness to co-operate either in raising the standard for
examination or in securing a common standard for the
Universities, the end of the session saw the matter still in
statu quo (See Q.C.J. Vol XVI pp 87-88 and 160-161).

At the April meeting of the Board, the question
was considered of further additions to be made to the Teaching
Staff, and a Committee was appointed to consider what
additions were most needed, and what action would be
warranted by the actual and prospective condition of the
University and to make enquiries as to what
candidates might be available, and to report to
