families (See Q.C.J. Vol SVII pp 36-37)

At the annual meeting of the Board Mr.
Justice Maclennan was unanimously elected Chairman of
the Board in the place of the late Mr Morris.

In addition to the changes made in Professor
Fowler's department, the salary of Mr Nicholson was
increased to $1400 a year and that of Mr Adam
Shortt in view of additional work in the Library to $1200
a year. Both Library and Museum had considerably
increased in value and usefulness during the last two
or three years. The sum of money appropriated to
the former amounted to about $1000 and a large grant
was also made to the Museum at the anual meeting
of the Board. A piece of ground beside the Drill
Shed was leased to a Company for the purpose of building
a Skating Rink and Curling Rink it being agreed
that the students of Queens should be entitled to the use
of both at half-price tickets.

During the winter a terrible
misfortune fell upon Toronto University in the complete
destruction of the Library by fire. Immediately on
hearing of the calamity, the Senate of Queen's selected
all the duplicates in the library that were likely to be
useful and sent them to Mr Vander Smissen
the Librarian. The following letter was
