the Board and in view of the more extended duties
that would fall to Dr Goodwin in connection with
the new Science Hall, Mr W Nicol, M.A. was
appointed Assistant in Chemistry and Lecturer in
Minerology and Assaying at a salary of $1000 a
year. Three tutors were also appointed, one in Physics,
and two in Zoology, the latter at $150 a year each;
being appointed in place of a Fellow at $300 as
agreed upon at the previous meeting. Dr Smith
the general secretary reported at the meeting of the
Board that the actual amount of subscriptions received
for the Jubilee Fund during the past year
was $8555. So far, this was satisfactory but a considerable
deficit was this year reported in the Fund
for the Theological Department. To this several causes
contributed. It was represented to the General Assembly
in the Annual Report, that in 1881 a Committee of
Assembly, to which was referred the Report of Queens
College together with instructions to consider the whole
question as to the best method of supporting the various
colleges came to the conclusion that the Theological Faculty
of Queen's required a minimum of $4000 annually from
the General Assembly College Fund. During the ten
years which had elapsed since then, Queen's had received
little more than half that amount, while
