University which had now continued for fifty years
presented him with an address expressing their esteem
and affection at the same time asking his permission
to place his bust in bronze within the walls of the
University. Dr Williamson replied in fitting terms and
the bust was unveiled by Justice Maclennan. It was
the work of Mr Hamilton Macarthy of Toronto (See
Q.C.J. Vol XIX, p 192).

The honorary degree of LL.D. was
bestowed on the Rev James Carmichael of King and
on Mr Douglas Brymner of Ottawa and that of DSc
on Mr Henri Ami, MA of Ottawa. No gold medals
were this year presented, the Senate having decided
that hereafter a bronze medal should instead be struck
for the prize student in each honour course. The
decision was received with satisfaction by the students,
as it placed the possibility of receiving such a recognition
within the reach of every honour course established
by the Senate.
