proved successful, and this year a third step was taken
with the same general object in view of bringing
the University to persons and classes outside, who
were desirous of receiving the benefits that a University
offers. A Conference was arranged by the
Theological Alumni, of Graduates and others to be
held for ten days in Kingston in order to study special
courses previously arranged for and outlined in a
syllabus, prescribing books to be read during the year in
the different courses. This was the first conference of the
kind ever held in Canada, and the universal testimony
was that it was stimulating and otherwise helpful.

Resolutions to this effect were passed, asking the
Committee in charge to arrange for an annual meeting
of the same character. Meanwhile the
growth of the university called for extension in many
departments. Requests were received from Professor
Dupuis for an assistant in place of a Lecturer, and
in Modern Langages another Fellow was urgently
needed. It was impossible to comply with all the
requests, however pressing but temporary provision was
arranged for in Professor Dupuis' case. In January
a number of the Graduates of Queen's met with the
Principal in Toronto. It was decided at this
meeting that it would be desirable that the
