from the beginning/having been one of the small band
of students, who began their studies in Kingston, when
the college was founded in 1841. He had ever since
maintained a warm interest in his Alma Mater,
with which he had for many years been closely conn-
ected as Librarian and Registrar.

In addition to the Portraits and Brass
already mentioned, a portrait was presented to the
University at the Spring Convocation of the Hon.
William Morris who had been largely instrumental
in obtaining the Royal Charter of Queen's in 1840,
and one of her staunchest benefactors and friends.

The salaries of Professors Shortt and Dyde were
this year raised, the former to $1500, the latter to $1250
and a house in the College grounds. The pressure of
financial difficulties was much felt, and there was
much consideration of ways and means to make revenue
and expenditure meet, which even with the most
rigid economy, was felt to be increasingly difficult.

The Rev. Dr. Thompson of Sarnia
was warmly thanked for his services, for which he
again refused to accept any remuneration. He was
requested to continue the lectures on Homiletics during
the next session.
