and this appointment was confirmed by the Board at
the annual meeting. On the recommendation of
Professor Dupuis, Mr. Norman Carmichael, M.A.
was appointed Assistant Astronomer with an addition
of $140 to his salary making it in all $940, or including
$60 as Editor of the Quarterly, $1000; and
an advanced student was engaged as instructor in
the School of Science at $100 a year.

The cordial thanks of the Board were
tendered to the Dean of the new Faculty of Practical
Science, and the hope was expressed that they might
be able to do more in this department to assist him
before long.

Mr. George Chown who had done the
work of Registrar during the past year was appointed
to the office at a salary of $1000. It was with
sincere regret that the Board learned of the death
of Rev. Dr. Bell, LL.D. who for so many years
had filled the position. The death of Mr.
John Cormack, for thirty five years janitor of the
College, also occurred during this winter. The post
of janitor had been only temporarily filled since the
resignation of Mr. John Cormack, but Mr. John
Burton was at this time permanently appointed
to the situation. There were not
many changes in the Medical Faculty
