1898-99

The number of students this year was as follows.
Arts - 430
Practical Science - 34
Theology - 42
Medicine - 126
[total] 632

This number gave an increase of 46
over the previous session. As in the previous year the
limit of accomodation had been reached, for the junior
mathematics class this session it had to be divided, and
taught in different rooms at the same hour by the Professor
and his assistant. This initial waste of strength was a
strong proof of the need of an additional building, with
two or three large class rooms and increased accomodation
for other departments.

The Fall convocation, usually a
very quiet function, was this year more imposing, owing
to the presence of their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Aberdeen
and Sir Wilfrid Laurier, the Premier of Canada. The
convocation was held in the City Hall, after which a
reception was held by their Excellencies, this being the
last visit from them, before Lord Aberdeen's retiring from the
office of Governor General.

Some important changes
and additions were made this year in the Teaching
