Madame Jenny d'Hericourt,

Just having received your letter my dear
Madame d'Hericourt, I hesitate
not one moment to say to you, that
I will do what I can for your friend
and hope to succeed in finding a
situation for her, which will
suit her.

How sad do I feel, my dear friend, that
you [underlined] have been struck so hard by this
tremendous calamity in Chicago. More
or less has it fallen on all of us--but

shall we help each other!? You, who
have done in life so much for us all,
can we do nothing for you? Of course
