kept out of Iowa-what I feel thus then is too little time to do the half I hoped-
-There is force in what Mrs. Hooker says about no convention-seeming to be a surrender-still if she can't give time nor money-nor you can't give money-nor Mrs. Hauton-why what then rely, simply; Susan shoulder the risk again-well I don't propose to do it this time-
-not that I should be much afraid but that I could make ends meet [illegible] 75 or 100 dollars-that to come out of my own pocket-but I can't give the necessary time this winter

-because I feel it a better use of it to stay or work in Iowa-
-But without me-you & Ms. [Slake?]-& Olympia & Mrs. [Illegible], [Houston?]-think the will be back east about that time
-ought to be able to carry the gear through.

But dear a me don't every thing look dark & dreary ahead-
Ms. Sauten is to be in Milwaukee Sunday-the 7th-if possible start on your letter with protest-so she, madam & can go over it together-

I am so sorry you have such a long beginning of the winter-no cold has passed
