Dear Sir:-

Since writing you last,
I attended a meeting of the Equity Congress, which body
is composed of Colored Citizens of New York and New Jer-
sey. The attendance was very large from Greater New York.
The Morality question was discussed at great length be-
fore and after the meeting. This body is non political
and an elegant place to learn the sentiment of persons
connected with all political parties, regard the several
candidates. At the meeting, national questions were
discussed; and as I told you in my last letter, they were
dissatisfied with things, and desirous of sending a
protest. No amount of persuation could prevent it. A
committee was appointed for that purpose, and it may be
they will forward such an instrument to you. As I before
told you, we must get to work at once to prevent as far as
we can, the growing sentiment against our administration
among the colored people, and their sympathizers in other
