life and much of our peace and prosperity
as a country depend upon it. Race prejudices
against the colored citizens of the Republic
and hatred for them is being given new
impetus recently. Ten millions and more
people, colored men, women and children are
trembling as the tide sweeps on against
them. Certain selfish politicians rejoice
because you keep your peace and say
nothing about injustice, wrong and un-
fairness and intrigue heaped against their
burdened people. You are a Presbyterian
and I am an Episcopalian but I love the
Presbyerians, for I was trained in a Pres-
byterian College, Lincoln University, the
Princeton of the colored people (as we used
to call it.) I love the Presbyterians because
they are so just and true, so plain and
practical, so kind and sympathetic, so brave
and courageous in ther fight that the colored
man be given a fair chance and equal
opportunity. Then too they are so free of all
hatred and race prejudice. Dr. [Isaach
Rendall?], the late President of Lincoln University,
was all this and more. Consequently I feel
and believe that you are sound on the
great question, that you are fair and just
