ACK'D

J.A.K.
President Woodrow Wilson
Washington, D. C.
Hon. Sir:
Senator Lewis' proposed plan to secure
positions for Mr. Julius F. Tayler and Mr. Wm. H. Clark
before he does anything for other colored men is great-
1y opposed by me and my friends and I believe that it
fails to meet the approval of the general public.
We think Mr. Tayler is a worthy Democrat.
Mr. Clark has a bad reputation. It is said that he is a
crap shooter, a gambler, and a saloon loafer.
He has held some of our best political
positions for many years, but he has nothing to show
for it. He takes no interest in the uplift of his race
and the colored peopie have not enough confidence in him
to make him of much weight in winning votes.
Mr. Joseph Biggs and Mr. Julius F. Taylor
are Christian gentlemen that have good reputations. They
are property owners, have the interests of their people
at heart, and their people believe in them.
The Democratic Party owes Mr. Clark noth-
ing.
Yours truly,
James E. Branch
