IS VARDAMAN PRESIDENTT

It looks as if Senator Vardaman of Mississippi, is the real Pres-
ident of the United States, at least that he is dictating the reaction-
ary jimcrow policy which has President Wilson bound hand
and foot.

He has just delivered to President Wilson his ultimatum that
he will fight any "Negro nominations" to the bitter end.

If Woodrow Wilson is President, he ought to have the courage
to treat every class of American citizens in accordance with the
principles of the "New Freedom" of which he has written and
talked so much. He swore to do it when he took his oath of office.
He should order the discontinuance of segregation of the races in the
government departments and he should nominate colored men for
office and stand by his nominations by recess appointments until he
wins.—The Appeal

He who runs, may read, so easy is it to discover who is at the
head of the National Administration. President Wilson is neither
a truckler nor fawner. He has the right to ascertain the views and
opinion of any member of Congress wit hrespect to the adminis-
tration's policies, especially members of his own party, but to say
that Senator Vardaman's ideas on the Negro as expressed in the
newspaper coincides with or is the opinion of President Wilson, is
absurd. President Wilson believes in opening the door of oppor-
tunity to colored men. We have faith in the President and venture
the prediction worthy and representative Negroes will receive recog-
nition at his hands. We ask that President Wilson be given the
fullest opportunity to give patronage to the colored people.

"NEGRO DEMOCRATS COWARDS"

Negro Democrats appear to be cowards, not one has the manhood to de-
mand their rights as citizens and taxpayers, they are entitled to office, recognition
and consideration as well as other races. The Negro Democratic mouthpiece,
The Informer, is so busy trying to land the Recordership that the editor dare
not speak out in defense of his race, and the humiliation encountered by this
administration, and Bishop Walters cannot be heard above a whisper.
"THE CIMETAR."

No, Negro Democrats are not cowards, or they would not be
advocates of Democratic principles. Demanding is the word. All
citizens and taxpayers cannot force things to their liking. We are
glad to know that the Cimetar charges us as being the Negro Demo-
cratic mouthpiece. We never knew this before. We simply state
what we believe to be facts, and uphold the hands of the adminis-
tration in our feeble way

Being an applica ion for the position of Recorder does not pre-
vent us from speaking out in defense of the race when we have
some cause to speak. As to Bishop Walters, we believe that the
sane thinking men will agree that he is and always has been a poor
whisperer.

The President Should Appoint
Some Colored Men.

After reading several Negro ex-
changes we have reached the conclu-
sion that the President in doling our
important jobs under his administra-
tion should give recognition to the
black man as to other men. We can-
not see how one or two Southern Sen-
ators whose policies are well known
as being opposed to a race of 10,000,-
000 people can have sufficient weight
to deter the President in doing his
duty. If Judge Terrell has made a
proficient and impartial judge, by all
means he should be re-appointed. The
people voted for the election of Presi-
dent Wilson believing he would favor
a fair deal for all, the Negro not ex-
cepted.—"Lackawana Times."

At the proper time the President
will recognise members of the race.
And we believe the President will re-
appoint Judge Terrell.
