SAILING UNDER FALSE COLORS!

A PECULIARITY OF SOME NEGRO JOURNALISTS, EXPOSED.

"CHIEF" WOOD'S ALLEGED CORRESPONDENCE WITH PRESIDENT WILSON, A FAKE!

Editor Amsterdam News:-

Sir,-

Knowing your ever readiness to place before your readers of Greater New
York, and the Country in gereral, facts upon which the intelligent may reach
substantial conclusions after mature consideration of current matters, I am
herewith submitting, for your consideration and for publication, the following letter, addressed to Mr. Joseph P. Tumulty, Secretary to the President,
and some further facts bearing on correspondence had between negro Democrats,
protesting their treatment by the National and City Administrations, and the
President, of which Mr. "Chief" Wood was no part whatever, and the good aris-
ing therefrom is not of his making, his letter in a local sheet issued under
date of June 10, 1914, said letter purporting to come from Washington, D. C.,
to the contrary notwithstanding.

The letter to Mr. Tumlty follows:

Mr. Joseph P. Tumulty

Secretary to the President.
The White House,
Washington, D. C.

My dear Sir:-

I am herewith enclosing a clipping from a negro news-
paper of this City of local circulation, issue of June 10th., 1914,
which purports to be a letter to the President and upon which an al-
leged correspondence with the President is assumed and built up -
but for the deliberate misstatement of fact contained therein I
would not trouble you with this note.

There appears to be two objects in view by the writers
(the Republican boss, now enjoying the 'hospitality' of the Demo-
cratic party, and the Tamany boss, now struggling for life in the
grasp of the negro anti-Tammany Stalwarts) of this letter; to-wit:
a fling at Mr. Dudley Field Malone, who appears to be able to care
for himself, and an effort to give the impression that all negro
Democrats, in Greater New York, are followers of Tammany Hall -
to quote "our organizations included all colored Democrats in New
York. ABSOLITELY UNTRUE. To quote further "In New York County,
where we are strongest, we had in 1912 a membership of more than
five thousand voters. A BRAZEN MISSTATEMENT OF FACT.

There are more than five thousnd enrolled negro
Democrats in New York County - very true - but less than five hun-
dred of them are followers of Tammany Hall.
