RECEIVED]

Mr. Joseph P. Tumulty,
Secretary to the President,
Washington, D.C.

My dear Sir;-

Your favor of the 24th instant has been received. I note your
mention of Amsterdam News, also mention of information contained in my
letter. I also note that no mention is made of Mr. Sulzer and 1 gather
from your silence that nothing is being said about his candidacy at the
present time.

I am forwarding you, under separate cover, a copy of the New York
News, of issue of June 25th, 1914, containing another Tammany outburst pur-
porting to come from the letter files of the White House, uttered by this
paper for the sole purpose of leading the unthinking to believe that Mr.
Wilson is in close touch with this Tammany aggregation.

I will be glad to have a statement from you, FOR PUBLICATION,
setting up the fact that no such letters have been given out by the White
House, something that will give the true condition relative to same.

If you are familiar with the workings of Tammany you will under-
stand, that, like all the people of the underworld, they never sleep. An
authoritive denial at this time will put the Administration in its true
light before the New York voters and enable me to prove my assertion that
this alleged correspondence is a fake.
