September 14th 1914.

The President
Washington D. C.

Dear sir:

I am directed by a number of the officers and me
members of the National Colored Democratic League to
address this letter to you.

Having patiently waited during eighteen months
of your administration for an act of reccognition of the s
services of the colored electorate who so faithfully
supported the Democratic Party in 1912, we feel it in-
cumbent upon us to call upon you and ask respectfully
if it is the policy of your administration to recog-
nize, by appointment, a representative of our organ-
ization to any place of honor or trust. Several places
hitherto held by colored men have been filled by men
of your selection not of our race. To this we register
no complaint. But in view of the fact that you received
the loyal support of many colored men, it does seem to
us that, at this time, the door of hope should be
opened to your Negro allies; and some fitting recogni-
tion accorded them by way of appointment.
