will understand, I am sure, that this Society has nothing what-
ever to do with politics or social equality, or any like movement.
Major Moton has shown remarkable wisdom and it seems possible
that under his direction this movement may extend throughout the
South and make it possible for the negroes to cooperate with the
whites in bringing about better conditions.

I trust that if this delegation goes to Washington you
will find it possible to give it an opportunity of presenting a
plea for your help.
