With reverence and gratitude, your Excellency, President Woodrow Wilson.

We humbly beg leave to address you on a subject which we
conceive to be one of the greatest and needful missions on earth.
It is the proposition or subject of laying a fixed basis of industry
or a foundation of labor in the State of Pennsylvania for the Negro,
to consist of the farm, shop and factory; to give him steady employment,
to teach him trades by practice, to reduce the cost of living and to
reduce idleness, or in other words, to teach in full the science of
production and the art of shaping the product.

However we write trusting that the Divine Providence will
order your action in this matter.

The chief object of our writing too, is we earnestly
solicit your moral support and endorsement of this proposition;
also should it suit your convenience, and we pray that it will, we
ask that you give us a date in the near future—say next May, 1915—
in good weather, for a personal consultation with you about this
matter. We do not mean a private conference but a public meeting.

In case you find it convenient to give us a hearing, as
we trust God that you will, if it is only for fifteen or twenty
minutes, we will be more than glad to present to you this proposition
praying your moral support to the end that we may be able soon
as possible to secure $1,000,000 from the National Educational Board
of New York City, or from some other source, to begin the work at once.
