the downfall of the Party, while your friends (Democrats)
are forced to remain on the outside in a sullen and dis-
satisfied mood, humiliated and twitted by the Republicans
on everyhand. I am fully confident that you are able to
handle the situation and conscienciously believe that you will
give us some of the crumbs that fall from the Democratic
Table. You have a few places left that were once and some
are now, held by colored men. May we look to you for some
consideration?

Accept my sincere and highest congratulations upon
you reaching your fifty-eighth mile-stone on the twenty-eighth
of the present month. May your future be bright and many
