at Wilson's Corner, when A. came up, except
Turney, & John R. Patrick Esqr. I stopped
and asked "Who is that, at the next door
which do you mean inquired Turney. 'The
man with his hat off" said A. That man
said Turney is Thomas P. Taul. Anderson
immediately marched at a rapid pace towards
him, with a pistol in his hand, behind
him, under his Coat _ the distance between them
at the time, did not exceed 30 feet. As he marched,
he raised his pistol, & Taul seeing him approaching
apparently towards him, stepped in
to Howell's door & faced about. By this time
A. was at the door, presented his pistol within
a foot of his body & fired, discharging the
whole content, consisting of 2 or 3 Rifle balls
& some dozen large shot into his abdomen just
above the naval, driving into him, a Metal
button which was on the waistband of his drawers.
One of the Rifle balls, after death, was taken
out of his stomach - another was ascertained
to be in his lungs, & the shot were scattered in
every direction, & yet he lived 48 hours!!
The assistance of Dr. Dixon was procured as soon
as possible. Indeed, he was present, and
an eye witness to the murder. As soon as
possible, I despatched a Runner for Dr. Fearn
of Huntsville, who came with all possible
speed, but upon his first examination he
pronounced it, a hopeless case.
The body of the unfortunate youth was removed
to Hayter's Tavern as soon as possible
where he received the kind attention and
