condolence of our friends, & the honest portion
of the community in general, & on the [blank] day of
August of 1829, his mortal remains were consigned
to the tombs in the publick burying ground at
Winchester, the body of his mother had been
buried in 1827, in the family burying ground
of Col. Anderson. It was now dis-interred
& buried with that of her son, where repose
also the bodies of two infant children
(Elizabeth & Mary Tipton) by my present wife
Hop Turney was a principal in the Murder
of my son - He was stranger to Anderson until
that day - immediately upon A. arrival he
sent for T., who waited upon him at Mr.
Campbell's - procured the Pistol with which
Taul was shot (it belonged to Finlay [?] an
other of Winchester, at present of Jackson County
in this state) _ When procured, it was loaded
Turney drew the load _ loaded it afresh, and
afterwards attempted to procure for A.
another pistol, which was doubtless intended
for me.
Anderson was in the custody it was said, of
John Handley the deputy sheriff, in whom [?]
had no confidence - I saw the high sheriff
who was a personal friend, but an ineffective
officer. I told him, it was impossible for me
to do anything that night - & requested him
to secure the prisoner until morning
which he promised to do - but he left town
that prisoner in the hands of Handley.
After Sun down, I procured a warrant against
him from James Sharp Esqr. returnable
before himself the next day, under the direction
of Mr. Frierson, the Attorney General
