for Huntsville, it was rumoured at Winchester,
that A. had left the former place
- I prepared an account of the Murder
& forwarded it, to Mr. Woodson, Editor of the
Democrat, for publication, offering a Reward
for $1000 for his apprehension.
On Sunday morning, I was informed by a
friend that Colo. Calloway intended to claim
the reward of $1000. That Turney had
offered to commence & carry on a suit against
me at his own expense, for the
purpose of receiving the amount, and
paying it over to C. without charging
him any fee for his services - I immediately

distant 10 miles from Winchester.

with the Anderson family
who I knew, had not been on terms
of intimacy, & friendship, with Colo.
Calloway, altho' he loved his neighbor
Colo. C. and myself, retired into this
yard, where I imparted to him, the
object of my visit, & what I had heard.
He seemed embarrassed - stated that it
was thru' his exertion & influences that
Anderson had been brought back - that he had
represented to him, that it was impossible
for him to escape, even if he deserved it
&c &c. He therefore supposed, that he was
entitled to the reward; that it was published
in the Huntsville Democrat.
In this, he was mistaken. Mr. Woodson
had written to me, that it was not published;
the types had been set, but being
informed that A. was about to leave
