Frierson's office. F. was prepared with a double
barrel shotgun, & seeing A. approach, armed
himself with it, & taking his position at the door
warned A. & his friends to keep off. A. fired his
pistol at him, & F. immediately fired one of
the Barrells of his gun, which wounded A.
& one, if not both of his friends - A. rushed
into F.'s office & armed himself with a Chair
with which he made battle, F. using the butt end
of his gun, in a short time the breach was broken
off, & A. was knocked down - while down
F. who was a stout man, struck him on the
head with the gun barrell, burying the Cock
in his temple, which produced instant death

This perished, a vile murderer, who ought
to have been hung in Tenn. years before.
Col Anderson & his daughter, Mrs. Campbell
died in a few years afterwards.

I now return to the trial, for the purpose of
recording some few particulars, in the evidence
&c &c which I desire to be known & remembered.
I had employed Sam H. Laughlin, Esqr. who had
a high character as a prosecutor, to assist the
Atto. Genl. I had previously employed Robt. P. Thompson
Esqr. but I have actually forgotten whether
he was alive at the trial or not. He attended
the examining Court, & possibly the final trial
If he did, he was in such feeble health, as to be
unable to render effective service.
Mr. Laughlin was a man of talents and
an experienced prosr., but he lacked energy.
The Atto. Genl (Mr. Frierson) was a young man
