A book or two for each during Christmas and a book to each on their birth-day as presents from their father and mother would cheer them up a bit. Later on "What is the best thing in the world", "Duty", "Character", "Self-Culture", "Longfellow's Poems", "Whittier's Works" and some of Dr. Eliot's selected books would be helpful. If the children can acquire the habit of reading good books I shall have no anxiety for their future.
