The Senatus met and was constituted.

Sederunt Principal Snodgrass, Professors Williamson
and Mowat and Rev. J.H. McKerras
Interim Professor of Classics.

The minutes of last meeting were read
and approved.

Memorial from 3rd year
students for dispensation
in Classics & Eng. Literature
[/margin]

There was read a Memorial from the students
of the third year requesting that a portion
of the subjects for the University Examination in
English Literature and Classics be remitted to them. The
Senatus agreed that the matter be left in the hands
of the Professors whose departments it concerns, but
that they be instructed to remit as little as possible
of the prescribed subjects; to give express intimation
that hereafter there shall be no remission in
any department; and to call the attention of the
students to the fact that the class work closed ten
days earlier this session than last.

Mr Romanes requested
to examine Prize essays
[/margin]

The Senatus agreed to request Mr. Romanes
to examine the essays given in for the Montreal
Prize.

Theses for M.A.
sanctioned
[/margin]

The Senatus sanctioned the following subjects of
Theses: The Authenticity of Ossians Poems by Donald
Fraser. The influence of the principle of emolations
by William McLennan, Inductive Reasoning
by Henry Edmison, The power of moral
worth by Robert Jardine, The Life and Character
of Mahmet by S.S. Bell.

Application for D.D. for
Rev. J. Geddie
[/margin]

An application having been made through
the Principal for a degree of D.D. for the Rev. John
Geddie, the Senatus authorized the Principal to
communicate to the party acting on behalf of
Mr. Geddie that the Senatus will be willing as
soon as the usual conditions are complied with to
