[ar]rest this decline and provide for a more prosperous
condition; the Senatus hereby respectfully
recommend the Board of Trustees in
their Annual Report to draw the attention
of the Synod to this matter so vitally
affecting the prospects of the Church that
the ministers and elders composing that Court
may be urged to seek out within their respective
bounds and take measures to have prepared
for College pious, discreet and talented youth
so that a regular and increasing supply of
entrants to our Divinity Halls may thus
be insured. Further, and it is extremely
desireable that the Principal and much of
the Professors as may be able to set apart
for this purpose a portion of the approaching
vacation should visit as many of the congregations
of the Church as may be practicable,
with a view to arouse in these an interest in
the College - to place before parents and young
men the advantages and facilities furnished by
this University for acquiring a liberal education
to make themselves acquainted with suitable
persons having serious views towards the
Christian Ministry - to procure contributions
to the Library and Museum - and otherwise
advance the interests of the College and the
Church; the Senatus requests the Board of
Trustees to ask the Synod to give to this
movement their sanction and countenance.
In connection with this the Trustees are requested
to make provision for meeting the
necessary expenses incurred in carrying out
this proposal. It is believed that such
