Moneses uniflora.
Oxalis acetosella.
Fruit { Tiarella cordifolia
{Fruit} { Streptopus roseus

This evening I took a drive
with Will. We turned
in by Wheeler's Pond and
I found by the roadside
a short distance from
the main road 4
specimens of
Cypripedium acaule.

In three of the specimens
the lip was pure white*
and the plant is very
common here. Gray
merely says in describ-

ing the color of the lip
"rose purple (rarely white}"
but John Robinson in his
Flora of Essex {County} makes
a variety
Cypripedium acaule, var. alba.
which I presume is this one.
These specimens I shall
press and I shall ask
Dr. Gray about them.

*with some very faint almost im-
perceptible purple veins.

For Dr. Grays answer, see
Aug. 4th.
