Sacred White Pony kept for the use of the
God. Around the corner of this building
are wonderful carvings of monkeys and
(Grape) also couloured in a very life like manner.
A tree planted beside this is
said to be the favorite tree
of Iyayesu that he was in the habit
of [carring] with him in a flower pot in
his palanquin. It is now an immence
tree. The Japanese love this miniature trees
and grow them in tiny pots. A great cistern
made from one piece of stone supported by
12 pillars stands by this is called Oh Choguya.
The Gate ways have wonderful draggons
carved on the ceilings and coloured most
vividly. All these things have lasted since 1618
and really exquisite. A great bell with a
hole in the top is called Motheater, the
bronze lanterns from Korea, a candlelabrum
from Holland are all works of art.
Hundred of stone and bronze lanterns
are standing about - On all sides
the grey stone with moss upon it against
the brilliant laquer red gold & black
make the colouring unique. The lanterns
number 180. Were all thank offerings from
the Daimyos at various times.
