One could write pages and not describe
all the wonders of this Temple. Christian
Churches do not take care enough of their
interiors & this causes this clean people to
belittle the Christians. You must take
off your shoes before you enter in
& they prefer the head being uncovered.
The lacquers and richly finished
brass and bronze ornaments about
these buildings are marvels of beauty
to the smallest detail everything is
perfect. And each temple has its
own particular deity. All the work
was done by real Japanese artists.
Certainly the worship of Shinto as
one sees it now in the enlightened day
causes you to think of the Catholic Roman
Church. The [?] thank offerings,
the altar with images and flowers.
The people come ringing their little
bells, dropping their thank offerings
before they go away is a wonderful sight.
We spent 4 pleasant hours at this
temple and felt sorry to leave
for luncheon. The floor is of polished
lacquer and is [exquisite?] in colour.
