perfectly quiet. Her room was very
pretty, lovely silver ornaments
on her table and a dainty silk
embroidered spread of pale blue
satin with small bunches of
pink plumb blossoms. We left
at 3 p.m. and after we went back
to our hotel got jinrichishas and
drove to see Japanese Hiogo,
the native town. It was so interesting
and full of street life for these people
spend all their time out of doors.
In fact their house consists more
of screen than house.
Sunday is not observed according
to our ideas and all trades are
followed by these people in their own
homes. We saw the Daibutsu
here, a very huge bronze figure
but I was not impressed. We
did not go to the temples which
are modern and tomorrow we go to
Nara for the day. On our return
at 6 p.m. we found Dr. and Mrs. Chill
also Mr. and Miss Hartshorne. They were
glad to see us & expect the the Wileys
