My dear Brother

I have to acknowledge
the receipt of a card to which your name is attached
inviting me to be present on the occasion of laying the
Corner Stone of the University of the South on 10th prox{?} --
I regret much the state of my health & some engagements
render an acceptance impossible -- I should have delighted
greatly to take by the hand many who will be there --

May the Heavans shine auspiciously
on that day & may an abundant blessing from on High be
vouchsafed to all your efforts for the advancement of
Learning & Religion --
