Right Reverend J. H Otey

Chairman of the Executive Committee

of the University of the South

Dear Sir,

I have the honor to
acknowledge receipt of your invitation to be present at
the laying of the Corner{underlined} Stone{underlined} of the principal building
of the University of the South, on the 10th of this month.
It would give me sincere pleasure to be present on
an occasion of so much interest to the Church, but
having just returned home, with my family, from our
summer tour, I find so many matters pressing upon
my attention, that I am, very reluctantly, compelled to
relinguish the pleasure.

With great respect

I am very truly & respectfully

Your ole {illegible: pal?}

J. B. {illegible: Imus?}
