Rt. Rev. James H. Otey D.D., L.L.D.,

Rt. Rev. & Dear Sir

Your favor of the 19th ult.
{illegible: c---ing} invitation to attend the Laying of
the Corner Stone of the principal building of
the University of the South came duly to hand.
I have delayed answering with the hope of being
able to attend. I deem it a great honor to
be there and while I most heartily thank the
Executive Committee for the invitation so kindly
given me, I deeply regret that it is out of my
power to be present.

We will not suffer the 10th Inst.
to pass unnoticed here at Nashotah, but shall
offer both thanksgivings & prayers -- thanksgivings for
the happy begining of the greatest work of the Century
in the American Church -- & prayers that the
blessing of the Lord keep & prosper it until He
come.

Your obedient servant

A{?} {illegible} Cole
