Dear Sir

I have
your letter this morning which I must
say surprised me much in reference to
your statement in relation to my charges
against the work done for the University
of the South in the first place you say
that I stated to that I would cut
a stone for 25 dollars this I admit to
be so but I think if you look at my letter
carefully you will find it was Limestone
& then I did not expect to do any more
than the line you gave me in your letter
which was the price customery to charge
for such work at my shop.
But in hearing from you again you
had got the Winchester marble at University
Place wishing me to find a man to cut
the stone which I claim{?} as soon as possible
to have your work done in time. From the
time I sent him from here till he came
home he charged me 22 days labour for which
I paid him $2.50{?} cents per day & his expenses on
rail road, I also bought other {illegible} you
{illegible} which you have a bill from
