San Francisco California March 3th 1899
The Directors of the Pacific Grove Retreat Association met
in the Phelan Building San Francisco at 11 A.M. in
response to a call of the secretary. This was made ne-
cessary by the death of the Superintendent and President
F.F. Jewell D.D.

The secretary called the meeting to order & nominated
Rev. George Clifford for chairman Protem & he was elected.
Rev. I.B. Hopkins led in prayer.

Present. M.C. Briggs. George Clifford. R. McElroy
Henry French. Robert Bentley. [I].B. Hopkins
& H.B. Heacock. Letters from H.E. Williamson
James Whiting regretting their necessary absence
were received.

The secretary stated that the objects of the meeting were
to elect a member of the Board to fill the vacancy caused
by the death of Dr. Jewell, also to elect a President,
and consider the matter of Superintendent of Moral
& Prudential affairs.

E.R. [Dille] was chosen as a director. George
Clifford was Elected President for the [balance] of the
year. Communications were read from Mr. F.S.
Douty & Rev Thomas [Filben] in relation to the
Superintendency. Mr. Douty thinks it better to have
Dr. [Filben] act in that capacity, until conference
he retaining his Charge at Santa Cruz. In view
of the uncertainty of the plan no action was
taken on a superintendent but Geo. Clifford R.
Bentley, Henry French R. McElroy & H.B. Heacock were
appointed as Committee to Consult with Mr. Douty
on the subject
