August 1952
Monday 4
Still too mild for any hope of the rain clearing.
Torrential showers with heavy drizzle in between.
Lit a fire early to mitigate the damp, & kept it going with two logs salvaged from the road, plus the boughs of the poinsettias & some coke.
Shrank all day drearily from the task of filling my income tax forms and at
12.15 midnight went to bed with it uncompleted.
Went to butcher & to inquire how Mrs Bennett was; and old Mrs Dixon shewed me her lovely garden of hyacinths and other flowers & ferns, she sells some.
Took Arthur some of the cakes brought by Frank Ryland.
Had a telephone talk with Pixie about going to Peace Conference.
