A day of wild gusty rain, wind increasing and getting colder at night.
Wrote letters.
Had a big fire of the old logs gathered from the street & loquat boughs.
Did some chopping-up & cut down the buddlea.
In evening went to Book Week at F.A.W. Pixie in chair part of time.
Fred Howe & wife (Collins); Geo Ferguson & Wife; Frank Eyre of Oxford University Press, Bull, McLean, Swain & G [space left for name?] among those present also Eve Pownall.
Howe brought me in his great car as far as St James Station.
To bed at 12.30
