Started warm & grey but began to rain at night fall & got chilly. Got up at 7.20 to prepare for Joe who came at 9 and began on hall. I gave him morning tea & dinner of a lovely boiled corn roll, mashed pumpkin, baked potatoes, carrots & peas, also onion sauce, followed by prunes & rice (tinned) & a cumquat & tea. Plum cake & biscuits for afternoon tea. He left at ½ to five. He got only the smaller entrance door of hall done. We talked too much. It was very kind and generous of him & he is a cheery & lovable creature. Gave him 6 oranges & a big roll of literary magazines, also one of my orchids for Lorna with Cecil Brunner roses & maidenhair which he forgot.
