Rev George van Eerde -South Sydney Methodist Mission, Secretary of Committee for Peace in the Pacific (Clive Evatt President) and Chairman of Asian Pacific Peace Movement had gone to China in June 1952 attending the Preparatory Asian and Pacific Peace Conference along with Dr John Burton, Steve Macindoe, Arthur Gietzelt and Ada Bromham. The main Conference was held (again) in Peking in Sept 1952 attended by Australian delegates Nancy Lapwood, Cassie Corban, Helen Palmer, Ken Gott, Rev Victor James, Canon Maynard, Rev. Dr Collocott, Bruce Hart. On return from both Conferences, delegates went on speaking tours. The one Miles attended is likely the one held in the Presbyterian Assembly Hall (Scots Church) Margaret St Sydney, addressed by Nancy Lapwood and Rev David Stewart - ex Baptist missionary to China, and chaired by Rev van Eerde. A crowd of about 450 attended.
