department store. I was cordially

and anyway, I knew that Spot
wanted to use my civilian over-
coat! Last night we had an
excellent variety program at
the Hotel (to keep the soldier
boys off the streets). Trained
dogs that I had already seen at the
Alhambra Theatre, a slight of hand
performer that made most delight-
ful fools out of some of the naive
sailor boys who wanted to see how
the tricks were done - a perfect
bunch for a clever operator to work
with! American songs by a French
girl with a impenetrable accent.
Musical novelties, and so forth.
Night before last (Friday) I had
dinner with Spot and his little
friend (I'm not ironically speaking
when I say she is a mighty nice
little girl and a friend of hers
who is English interpreter in the
same store (The Louvre). I confess
that I didn't realize how much
was lacking in life in not being
able to talk once in a while
