J.G.W. Charnaud, Esq.,
The Royal Sovereign Pencil Company, Limited,
Neasden,
N. W. 10.

Dear Mr. Charnaud,

I felt that I should personally write to thank you for the
wonderful contribution which you have made in the preparation of the
D-Day book which I am writing. It is really heart-warming to get
such co-operation and indeed it is expecting a great deal to ask any
man to try and remember the happenings of fifteen years before. So
I am especially thankful to you for helping as you have done, not only
in answering the points on the questionnaire - some of them indeed of
a rather personal nature - but also because you took the time to allow
us to interview you.

It may very well be a full year before the work is completed, but
at that time a copy of The Reader ’s Digest, containing the story "The
Longest Day" will be sent to you.

Thank you too, for the maps and photographs which I am returning
herewith. I found these very useful and it was very kind of you to allow
me to keep them.

Yours sincerely,

(Cornelius J. Ryan )
