Kippering Progress Association,
Boardman Road,
Redcliffe.

26th March, 1955.

The Secretary,
Department of Native affairs,
Home Secretary's Department
BRISBANE.

Dear Sir,
Would you be good enough to advise me if the word,
"Kippering" is an aboriginal one, and if so, would you kindly give
me the particulars concerning it, such as origin, meaning and correct spelling.

The impression here, is that the word was a name
given to a corroboree ground by the native tribe of this district in
the early days. At the moment there are old inhabitants of the
district that speek of such a stamping ground, or corroboree centre,
that was until just recently, used as a local sports grounds.

My Association has adopted the name, and a s a matter
of historical interest desires to ascertain the correct particulars concerning it.

Should this enquiry not concern your Office I would deem
it a favour if you would forward it on to whatever authority able to furnish
the information, if available.

Yours faithfully
(Sgd.) F. Hungerford
Hon. Secretary.
