{104} An aproved Sirrup for Spleen
Take Roman Wormwood, Tammeris Centuary Scurvey grasse water
Cresses Brooke Lyme Liverwort harts Tongue Spleenewort, pollipodium
of Oake; of Each an handfull; voylet Leaves & Red rose Leaves
& wood Sorrell of Each 3 handfull, of roots of fennell parsley
& sparrowgrass Capers, of Each an handfull take Anniseeds
parsley seeds Carraway seeds Fennell seeds of each 2 ounces 3
ounces of well pict Cenai; beat seeds & herbs; pick Roots
Bruse & slice very thin 2 good handfull of Munck an herb
put all Inot a vessell 4 quarts of water a gad of steel 2 or 3
times quenched In it it is hot; set vessell close slopt in
a pott of Boyling water & let it boyle very softly till hafe
the water be consumed to 3 pints; straine water from
herbs, & put Into it 2 ounces of Rubarb grated & Infused in
white wine all night before & strain'd Into it; take 3 lb & 1/2
of hard suger, & halfe an ounce of salt gem & as much salt pru=
nella & 3 dramms of Briana & let boyle altogether till it
comes to a Reasonable thick sirrup; & when it is almost cold
straine it into salt of wormwood & sald of Tameris &
salt of scurvey grasse & salt of Ash each 6 drames; & an ounce
& halfe of Creame of Tarter; you must take 3 spoonfull of
this every day for 9 dayes together, & first 4 dayes you
must Swallow a pill as big as a pea; a quarter of an hour
before you take sirrup, & after 9 dayes taking take
it one day a week for a month or a quarter of a year together
{&} so no more physick put this for 6 dayes in spring, & 6 dayes
In fall as Long as you Live; during taking it you must
you must keep a clean moyst dyet, as Barlewater grewell &
wheat & clarrifi'd whea Burrage Blossomes In rose Exercise
Armes & at all times be carefull of diet, forbear eating
hares venison salt meats; shun all things that be windy
drinks some french wine moderately meat to ad
strength to spleen/
