How to make water for a surfeit
Take a quart of small aquavit & put it into a glasse & put
in good store of poppies cutting away e black ends, & let m
stand in 2 dayes n straine m out, & put in more & some
mary gold flowers & Clove Gilliflowers, & let m stand a week
n take m out & put in more thus do it till you find it strong
of e flowers & high cullored, then take some Gilliflowers
mary gold & poppies 2 or 3 spriggs of sweet margerum &
a Little Root of Angellieo, a good handfull of Raisons stoned
& dates a little lequrish scraped & sliced & half an ounce of [] as much sugar cane as you like, a little
rosasolis, let these stand & a week n straine it into a
glasse; you may put fresh aquavila to e flowers hors
& spices, if you please, keep it all e years for r use
Spirit of Caster
Take of callamine 1/4 of [] of nip halfe a handfull as much
dillseed 2 drams of Cloves 2 ounces of orange pill, e whites
being pared of m 2 ounces & a 1/2 of walnut blossomes, a good
handfull of rosemary flowers castoriem one ounce, halfe
a handfull of e topps of sage to every ounce of castorum &
e afore things; put a quart of e best white wine, & to
distill m, this water is good for all troublesomeness of e wind
& fainting or swooning fits, or a weak stomach; women th
child may take it y are troubled th fainting fits. It
revivesthe spirits
Simple Water of poppies
still popies as you do roses so add sugar canes and dates
sliced, this is good for those whose t have not good digestion
poppy water
take a quart of
[] of poppies flowers cleane pickt from e stalkes & blades
cut off; n add to it 2 ounces of sugar candie 1 ounce of dates
sliced; stop it close & let it stand a month or more as you see
good; n staine it put it into a cleane glasse &
stop it up for r use it is good for surfeits & r stomack.
