back at 9, turned in at 10.30.

December 15th Cleaned ship throughout, and prepared
for going to Sea - Admiral gave a party on board.
In the evening played cards, made it Saturday and
turned in

Sunday December 10th Very hot and the rats
running about like fun: at 9.30 went to Divisions
and performed Divine Service after inspecting the lower
deck. Commander dined on board Flag Ship - Arrived
a large Steamer.

December 17th At 8.30 went on board the Margaret
Deane to breakfast with my school fellow Aitken, and
afterward went on board another Liverpool Ship,
and then ashore. At 2 went to a French Restorante
had lunch, ici, and a cigar went to Margaret
Deane again on our way off, bought three dozen of
good Scotch Whiskey, and went on board Rifleman.
At 10 two gentlemen came off with two of my
messmates, and was woke up, and could not
get to sleep again till after 2 o'clock.

December 18th At 9 saw the Commander and had
from him an account of the Consuls ball : there were
nearly a thousand people present, but the concern
went off indifferently - 9.30 A signal from the
Marines of the Flag Ship to repair on board of us -
Captn Fellows, Lieut __ and sixty privates came
