Ships Company - Commdr went shooting returning late in
the evening with a good bag full of birds.

In the afternoon the Buenos Ayres Steamer came in
bringing the remainder of the Mr Christie's luggage: she
had not any news.

July 4th At 8. She sailed for the Paraguay - Mr Dale
came on board to breakfast with me. In the afternoon
some of the Officers went out riding, and two of the Engineers

very cold but we had a good fire in the Engine Room.

July 5th A beautiful cold morning, employed cleaning ship
throughout. The Commdr went away shooting on horse back, and
returned with a bag full of game. In the evening, we had hot
brandy and water with the Commdr, by remembering that it was
Saturday night, and by nine I was under the blankets.

Sunday July 6th Port of Parana - Two of the Engineers went
into the country, a distance of 8 leagues - At 9.30 went to Divisions
and inspected lower deck and store rooms. Gave leave to part of the
Ships Company. After dinner, I was persuaded to have a walk
and went up to Town with two of my messmates: we went
to the Club where we met the Commdr and Mrs Freeman, had
a game of billiards and got on board again by 9.

July 7th Still very cold - Went on shore in the forenoon to
see a celebrated tame lioness, with which I was much amused
and also with a racoon - Came back to dinner and again
went ashore, had a game at billiards, a cigar, & glass of grog
and got on board by nine and turned in.
