Sunday July 20th 1856 Port of Parana.
Mustered by Opent List, and performed a Divine Service
on the lower deck the weather being too cold. At 2.30
a Major-in the Service of Orkesas, and Commdr
dined with us. He was attended by an orderly who had
cut as many as 60 men's throats in a day. At 5
a party of ladies came on board, all Spanish, so that
we were again at a loss to understand each other.
After they had left, went to bed.

July 21st A beautiful morning, went ashore to
see my sick, and then had a walk with the Pilot
on our return a party was made up among the Officers
to go to Santa Fe of course I was not one of them.
A large schooner - arrived from Buenos Ayres. No news.
By 1 PM the party started in our second gig. Had
to report Carrole AB for insolence.

July 22nd After Division exercised bending sails,
loosing sails, reefing sails and furling sails, all done
in first rate style. Went ashore at my usual time,
saw my patients, smoked a pipe, drank mattee and
returned to dinner at 2. In the afternoon Mrs Ferguson
came on board.

July 23rd Woke with a bad headache & dreadful
cold, and found I had inadvertently slept with my
port open. Caught about 12 dozen of fish. In the
evening had a quiet game at Cribbage, and turned in
at 9 and a little after ten was awakened by the return
of the Santa Fe party.

July 24th A dark miserable morning, but clearing
up in the afternoon, when I fished for two hours, killing
14 dozen. Went ashore and smoked a pipe with
